One of the key events in the caravanning sector, the German fair
CMT in Stuttgart, is about to open its doors for its 2026 edition: the public will be able to visit the halls
from Saturday 17 January to Sunday 25 January. As tradition dictates, the event takes place at the modern
Stuttgart exhibition centre, easily reachable by car, motorhome and plane (thanks to the nearby airport).
CMT has two distinct souls: on one hand,
the tourism sector, with proposals and ideas from all over the world, and on the other,
the caravanning segment, which over the years has become an increasingly important part of the fair’s offering — an event within the event, so much so that this section now occupies no fewer than seven halls.
The
CMT Stuttgart fair dates back to 1968, when it debuted as an exhibition event called “Motor-Sport-Freizeit” (Motor-Sport-Leisure). In 1971 it was renamed “CCT – Caravan, Camping, Touristik” (Caravan, Camping, Tourism), but as early as 1972 it took on the name “CMT” (Caravan, Motor, Touristik, meaning Caravan, Motor and Tourism).
Today it is a trade fair of considerable scale: the 2025 edition of
CMT welcomed around 260,000 visitors, with 1,570 companies exhibiting across ten halls, over a total area of 125,000 square metres. At the 2026 edition of
CMT, seven halls are dedicated to the world of caravanning: motorhomes of every type are on display, from mini-vans to large motorhomes, taking in camper vans, over-cab motorhomes, low-profile motorhomes and traditional A-class motorhomes, not to mention caravans.
In hall 4, visitors will find “destinations from around the world”: countries, regions and cities from every corner of the globe, from Italy to Spain, from France to Greece, but also the United States, Canada, Mongolia... In hall 6, meanwhile, visitors can discover Germany, with suggestions for mountain excursions, cycling tours, city breaks, seaside resorts to explore and much more — in short, everything worth visiting in this great country, Germany, which is easily reachable by motorhome from Italy.
As in previous years, a secondary fair is scheduled, “Selbstausbau”, or “self-expansion” (from 22 to 25 January), where visitors will find solutions, materials and accessories for converting, customising and modernising a motorhome or caravan, not forgetting the self-conversion of vans into holiday campers.
