This is precisely where the Vanline range from German manufacturer Pössl fits in perfectly, a proposal that cleverly interprets the concept of the multi-purpose vehicle, capable of combining the practicality of an everyday car with the freedom of a small motorhome. A solution designed for those unwilling to compromise on either everyday functionality or the pleasure of adventure. The philosophy behind the Vanline range is clear from the very first glance: to offer compact, easy-to-handle vehicles that are, at the same time, ready to transform into genuine travel companions for weekends away, touring holidays or brief escapes from routine. Thanks to their contained dimensions and careful design, these vehicles move with ease through city traffic, park effortlessly and can be used without difficulty as an everyday car. The Vanline collection is made up of two families, which differ mainly in the base vehicle used for their construction, namely the Mercedes-Benz Vito Pro Tourer or V-Klasse, and the Citroën Spacetourer. The distinguishing feature shared by all these models, however, is undoubtedly the pop-up bellows roof, a solution that lies at the very heart of the dual-purpose concept behind these vehicles. When closed, the roof maintains a low, aerodynamic profile, in some cases even allowing access to multi-storey car parks or garages, thanks to an overall height kept below the two-metre threshold. Once raised, however, the interior space expands considerably, creating an upper sleeping area that comfortably accommodates two people. In addition, there is also the possibility of creating a further double bed by transforming the rear seating. The modularity of the interior and certain elements also allows the vehicle to be adapted to suit the needs of the moment, making it perfect for couples, families, or those travelling with sports equipment. Let’s take a closer look at the four models that make up this compact and versatile collection. Let’s start with those that most represent the link between the world of the car and that of the motorhome. We are referring specifically to the Vanster and the Vanstar , the former built on a Citroën base and the latter on Mercedes-Benz mechanics. Despite differing overall lengths, measuring 495 cm for the Vanster and 514 cm for the Vanstar, these two vehicles share the same car-like spirit that, when needed, can quickly transform into a small refuge for the night. Depending on the variant, mechanics and configuration chosen, these two vehicles can offer anywhere from four to eight homologated travel seats and from two to four sleeping places. And, just like a modern car, there are numerous customisation options available, both in terms of equipment and styling. Furthermore, an optional module can be requested for installation in the rear boot, which integrates a practical camping kitchen. For those instead seeking a vehicle closer to the world of the motorhome, the Campster and Campstar siblings step onto the scene, again built respectively on the well-known base from the Stellantis Group and that of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, sharing identical external dimensions. In this case, however, the interiors receive a decisive upgrade in terms of configuration and equipment. First and foremost, a kitchen block appears, complete with everything needed: from the hob to the sink, the fresh and waste water containers, and the compressor-driven top-loading fridge. This is a kitchen that can be used both inside and outside the vehicle, thanks in some cases to a practical rotating mechanism, or to the possibility of detaching the entire unit and positioning it near the vehicle. But that’s not all. The front seats can be rotated to face the rear of the vehicle, creating a comfortable dining and relaxation area together with the forward-facing rear bench. There are also several cupboards and compartments dedicated to storing clothing or other items. On request, a heating system for the interior can naturally also be fitted. At a time when freedom of movement and flexibility are increasingly important values, Pössl’s proposal with the Vanline range feels more relevant than ever. These vehicles embody a new way of travelling, more spontaneous and less constrained, in which the car becomes a tool for living experiences, not merely a means of transport, thus representing a well-achieved synthesis between everyday life and travel.
