Workation in a motorhome

Why, and which are the perfect destinations

Published on 15/05/2025

There are those who work while dreaming of setting off. And then there are those who really do set off, taking their work with them, without giving up comfort and connectivity.
This is the workation phenomenon, an increasingly popular way to get a change of scenery and explore new places while staying productive. Perfect for anyone who can work remotely, the workation is the rejuvenating break that combines duty and pleasure.
And the motorhome is the ideal vehicle for experiencing it: quiet, personal, well-equipped, it’s a home on wheels that lets you follow your own pace and enjoy total freedom. APC, the Associazione Produttori Caravan e Camper suggests five ideal destinations for a workation on the road: from the alpine charm of Annecy, to the bright sunshine of Alicante, via the Portuguese coastline of Cascais, the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bled and the Mediterranean energy of Split.

Why a motorhome?
In recent years, motorhomes have evolved to meet the needs of smart workers, offering solutions that are increasingly suited to remote work. They guarantee a high level of living comfort, with large, height-adjustable tables, ergonomic seating, beds with wooden slats and thick biolatex mattresses, fully equipped kitchens with a four-ring hob, oven and tall fridge with separate freezer, spacious shower cubicles, and insulation designed to ensure thermal and acoustic comfort. The onboard technology supports day-to-day work thanks to well-distributed power sockets, efficient batteries, high-performance heating systems, dimmable lights that are easy on the eyes, and an increasingly stable connection, even in the most remote areas.

What’s more, combining remote work with life on the road means being able to work in quiet, pleasant surroundings, boosting productivity and reducing the stress of working in the city, all without giving up the closeness of friends and family. As for connectivity, if you’re not staying at a campsite, you can opt for a portable Wi-Fi router with a data SIM, Starlink or amplified LTE antennas, or the more classic smartphone hotspot. And how about saving energy? New technologies make it possible to install solar panels on the motorhome roof to recharge devices without relying on mains power. Alternatively, you can choose long-lasting lithium batteries and power inverters to keep laptops and other electronic devices running without a worry.

1. Split, Croatia: a sea of culture and freedom

Overlooking the Adriatic, Split is a Croatian gem where time seems suspended between past and present. The city, built around the imposing Diocletian’s Palace, is an ideal place for anyone choosing to enjoy a workation. Thanks to its relaxed yet lively atmosphere and its public transport network, which makes it easy to explore the rest of the country, Split is the perfect destination for those who want to work just steps from the sea, among stone alleyways, local markets and sunsets over the harbour.
By motorhome, you can stay at Camping Stobreč Split (Sv. Lovre 6, 21311 Stobreč), a 4-star site set in a green oasis between sea and river, just 7 km from the historic centre and Diocletian’s Palace, and equipped with an internet corner. An ideal base for experiencing Split and its surroundings in comfort and freedom.

2. Alicante, Spain: between golden beaches and lively evenings

In the heart of the Costa Blanca, Alicante, a city surrounded by some of Spain’s most spectacular beaches, sits suspended between the deep blue of the Mediterranean and the embrace of the mountains, offering working days with a view and afternoons perfect for a swim or a walk in nature. Then, when the sun goes down, Alicante shows its liveliest side: bars, tapas and venues bring the city to life, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a balanced mix of productivity and fun.
The Area Natur Playa Muchavista (Carrer de les Àncores 25, El Campello) offers comfort and facilities just steps from the sea. It has 24-hour video surveillance, new and well-equipped facilities, and free Wi-Fi.

3. Lake Bled, Slovenia: an oasis of concentration amid nature and silence

Lake Bled, with crystal-clear waters framed by stunning mountains, looks as though it’s straight out of a fairy tale. Here, remote workers can find the perfect refuge to refresh mind and spirit: the internet connection is fast and stable, even at the area’s well-equipped campsites, while the atmosphere is calm and intimate, ideal for focusing and finding inspiration. In your free time, you can stroll along the lake’s perimeter, explore alpine trails, or treat yourself to a slice of the famous Bled cream cake.
Camping Bled (Kidričeva cesta 10c), shaded and with free Wi-Fi, is an ideal place to work from your motorhome surrounded by nature.

4. Cascais, Portugal: work with an ocean view

Elegant, rich in culture and motorhome-friendly, Cascais is one of the jewels of the Portuguese coast. Its slow pace, with golden beaches, cycle paths and breathtaking scenery, invites you to slow down and unwind. The town is well connected, both digitally –thanks to good Wi-Fi coverage– and logistically. Nearby, there’s no shortage of scenic service areas, campsites immersed in nature, and postcard-worthy views, such as those in the nearby Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
Motorhome owners working remotely in Cascais can park their vehicle at Camping Guincho - Orbitur (Rua da Areia, Cascais) and connect to the free Wi-Fi offered by the site.

5. Annecy, France: alpine air and perfect connectivity

Known as the “Venice of the Alps” for its picturesque canals and enchanting old town, Annecy is a destination that combines nature and city life in a rare balance. The emerald-coloured lake, surrounded by mountains, is perfect for those who love the outdoors: kayaking, trekking, cycling... every day can be enriched with a different activity. At the same time, the town is dynamic and modern, with coworking spaces, restaurants, markets and excellent transport links. The internet connection is excellent everywhere, from fibre-equipped campsites to the town’s hotspots. A place that invites you to rediscover your own rhythm, both during and outside working hours. The Le Belvédère municipal campsite (route du Semnoz 8, Annecy), set among greenery with views over the lake and the Alps, offers free Wi-Fi and lets you work from France with ease.
