The Salone del Camper in Parma: 100,000 visitors and over 600 vehicles on display

The 2026 edition of the event has come to a close: it brought a host of new motorhome models into the spotlight, as documented in our videos

Published on 21/09/2026

The 2026 edition of the Salone del Camper di Parma confirmed the public's interest in the sector, which encompasses motorhomes, caravans, accessories and various activities linked to tourism and vehicle hospitality. The event, organised in collaboration with APC - Associazione Produttori Caravan e Camper, took place in the halls of the Parma exhibition centre from 12 to 20 September 2026, confirming the 100,000 visitors.

Worth noting that 60,000 tickets for the 2026 edition of the Salone del Camper were purchased online, allowing smoother management of entries thanks to the planning of arrivals. More than 110,000 square metres of exhibition space, spread across five halls, enabled the over 350 exhibitors present to operate in the best possible way. The figure that most captures attention is that of the recreational vehicles on display: over 600, which means the public was able to admire and compare a highly representative, almost complete, sample of the current market landscape.

The institutions at the fair

To the good turnout of the public are added the interesting figures for motorhome registrations for the 2026 season, which in Italy grew by 4.95% (compared with the same previous period) between 1 September and 31 August 2026. As evidence that the Salone del Camper holds strategic relevance for the national manufacturing and commercial sector, there was a strong institutional presence at the fair. On the occasion of the inauguration of the Salone del Camper, on Saturday 12 September, Tommaso Foti, Minister for European Affairs, the PNRR and Cohesion Policies, took part, while on Monday 14 September Gianmarco Mazzi, Minister for Tourism, was present at the fair in Parma. To the two ministers was added, on Saturday 19, Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice President of the Senate and former Minister for Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies. The three interventions brought to the centre of the discussion themes directly linked to the growth of the sector: the weight of Italian production, the capacity to attract European itinerant tourism flows to Italy and the need to develop an infrastructure network adequate to demand.

8,144 motorhomes registered: the Italian market closes at +4.95%

The 2026 commercial season, running from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, closed with 8,144 new registrations, against the 7,760 of the previous season, with a growth of 4.95%. Worth noting is the significant figure for vans, which represented 37.26% of registrations. Italy also confirms itself as the third largest European producer of motorhomes, after Germany and France, and destines over 80% of its production for export. The figures therefore place the balance of the 2026 edition of the Salone within a national market that closed the season in growth and within a supply chain strongly oriented towards international markets.

20 million itinerant tourists: Italy's challenge

The issue of infrastructure remains central. In Italy there are an estimated 2,000 service areas, against over 5,000 in Germany, more than 4,000 in France and over 2,500 in Spain. The comparison takes on particular weight in the face of the size of the potential market: in Europe itinerant tourists are estimated at over 20 million, considering only those who travel with a motorhome or caravan they own, without including rentals.

Foti: 28,000 recreational vehicles produced and 8,000 employed

The presence of the Minister for European Affairs, the PNRR and Cohesion Policies Tommaso Foti, who took part in the inauguration on Saturday 12 September, gave institutional prominence to the opening of the Salone and brought to the centre of the discussion the economic weight of the Italian motorhome supply chain. In his speech, Foti recalled that in Italy around 28,000 motorhomes and caravans are produced every year and that the sector counts 8,000 direct and indirect employees. The Minister also referred to the potential of a European market that counts around 6.5 million recreational vehicles, underlining the need for Italy to strengthen its hospitality capacity and its network of areas dedicated to itinerant tourism: «Today the issue to consider is that, besides being producers, we must become attractors of those who do not choose traditional infrastructure for their holidays. For this reason we must offer well-equipped areas that foster a trend increasingly widespread in Europe». His speech thus related the productive strength of the sector to the potential of incoming tourism linked to travel by motorhome and caravan and to the economic benefits that these flows can generate for the regions.

Mazzi and the best strategy for the sector: decongest, deseasonalise and digitalise

Two days after the inauguration, on Monday 14 September, the Salone del Camper also welcomed the Minister for Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi, who dedicated his speech to the role of the open air in national tourism policies and to the development of dedicated infrastructure. Mazzi recalled the investment of 32 million euros allocated to over 150 projects in 169 Italian municipalities, aimed at creating 4,375 pitches. The interventions are distributed with 28.5% in the North, 28.5% in the Centre and 43% in the South and the Islands, with the aim of strengthening the offer across the whole national territory. In his speech, the Minister also referred to the best strategy: decongest, deseasonalise and digitalise. Open-air tourism, Mazzi explained, can help distribute flows towards less congested areas and extend the tourist season beyond the traditional periods. Digitalisation instead enters the planning of the travel experience, particularly cared for by the foreign tourist. The Minister also placed emphasis on the quality of hospitality, underlining the need to bring Italian standards closer to those of the Northern European motorhome service areas better equipped for itinerant tourism and to meet the expectations of an increasingly demanding international demand. A form of tourism that, as Mazzi recalled, brings wealth to the country and generates economic benefits for the regions visited.
