Excellent result at Dakar 2020 for the Spanish driver
Laia Sanz, first of all women and 18th in the general standings. The "Queen of the Desert" is also celebrating the great achievement of
10 Dakar races completed consecutively. And
Kosmo 509, 741-cm low-profile on Fiat Ducato 120 CV was accompanying her in this demanding race.
The vehicle, supplied in collaboration with the Spanish dealer Autosuministres, was the ideal travel companion for this new adventure: in addition to being a real "oasis" between one stage and another, in which to rest and refresh oneself, it was also the "living room" from which Laia recorded the video diaries published on her channels during the race. At the end of some particularly demanding stages, Laia wanted to share with her fans the impressions of the day, directly from the dinette of her Kosmo 509.
The historic race took place this year in
Saudi Arabia, leaving South America after 10 years. The route, which is particularly demanding, started in Jeddah on January 5 and ended in Al Qiddiyah on January 15.
Twelve very hard stages for a total of 7,856 km on very fast routes between desert, mountains and canyons.
The difficult and changing environmental conditions, with maximum temperatures of over 30°C and minimum temperatures below 5°C, have put to the test not only the physical resistance of the drivers, but also the mechanics of the vehicles that accompanied them.
A good test for Kosmo 509, which was able to cover sandy and uneven terrain thanks to the many
Electronic Stability Control features, standard on all Kosmo low-profiles:
ESP specific for motorhomes, ABS, ASR, Hill Holder and Roll Over Mitigation.
The
strong insulation of the walls, roof and floor made of extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) and the fibreglass sub-floor of the living area have protected the interior of the vehicle from the extreme temperature changes in the desert, allowing Laia to make use of the camper at all times.
The
comfortable ergonomic L-shaped living area with high comfort padding and table that can be moved in all directions was an excellent mobile "office" for planning the demanding route day after day. The
beds with wooden slats and high comfort mattresses have guaranteed Laia the necessary rest to recharge her batteries between one stage and the next.
Kosmo 509 won its challenge in the desert, proving to be a valid support for a great champion like Laia Sanz in a very demanding and never predictable race.
