A new approach to kitchen design for recreational vehicles: refrigeration, food preservation, ice production, beverage dispensing and cooking functions are concentrated in a single integrated unit.
A single unit, multiple functions. It is called Xfresh and it is the solution developed by HMT to rethink the organisation of the kitchen aboard recreational vehicles. An integrated system that concentrates a fridge, freezer, room-temperature food compartment, ice production, beverage dispensing, sink and induction hob within a single structure.
The aim is to bring together various functions traditionally distributed across several elements of the kitchen in a motorhome or van, through a configurable module intended for integration into newly designed recreational vehicles.
A complete kitchen in a single module
Xfresh was conceived as an integrated kitchen solution for the RV (Recreational Vehicles) sector, with particular attention to space optimisation. The structure brings together various fittings dedicated to the preparation, preservation and management of food and beverages.
The configuration proposed by HMT includes a refrigerated zone, a freezer compartment, a space dedicated to room-temperature storage, an ice-production system, a beverage dispenser, a sink and an induction hob.
A concentration of functions that aims to simplify the design of the onboard kitchen, especially in vehicles where every available centimetre must be used carefully. An approach that may prove interesting for builders of motorhomes and vans, called upon to reconcile living comfort, functionality and the rationalisation of space.
187 litres of total capacity
One of the most interesting elements of Xfresh concerns its total capacity, declared by HMT at 187 litres, divided between three different storage zones.
In detail, the configuration provides:
- 109 litres for the refrigerated compartment;
- 28 litres for the freezer compartment;
- 50 litres for the compartment dedicated to room-temperature storage.
This subdivision therefore makes it possible to have distinct spaces for fresh food, frozen products and food that does not require refrigeration.
This is not simply a large fridge, but a multifunction system that integrates different preservation modes within a single unit.
Independent temperature management and configurable modes
Particular attention has also been dedicated to the management of the different internal zones. Xfresh is in fact equipped with independent electronic sensors for each temperature zone.
The system also allows cooling and room-temperature modes to be assigned to the individual compartments, offering configurable management of the storage spaces.
This feature makes it possible to adapt the operation of the different zones to usage needs, distinguishing spaces intended for refrigeration from those dedicated to room-temperature storage.
Ice production: up to 12 kg per day
Among the integrated functions, the ice-production system also stands out, with a capacity declared by the builder of 12 kg over 24 hours.
It is a feature that further expands the possibilities for using the onboard kitchen, complementing the traditional refrigeration and preservation functions with a solution dedicated to ice production.
HMT also declares a cooling time of 120 minutes and an operating noise level of 40 dB.
Automatic ventilation and antibacterial drying
Another interesting aspect concerns the management of the system after switch-off. Xfresh in fact integrates an automatic ventilation and antibacterial drying function that activates after the system is stopped.
A solution designed for managing the internal spaces and the hygienic conditions of the compartments, particularly interesting in an environment such as that of a recreational vehicle, where spaces are limited and the organisation of the kitchen must also take account of periods of non-use.
A solution designed for motorhomes and vans
Xfresh was conceived primarily for original integration by recreational vehicle builders (OEM), with particular attention to configurations in which the space intended for the kitchen must fulfil multiple functions.
HMT indicates three main categories of vehicle for which this solution has been designed:
- Vans and camper vans;
- Low-profile motorhomes, over-cab motorhomes and motorhomes;
- Expedition recreational vehicles, designed to tackle particular itineraries and uses.
The integration is defined together with the vehicle builder, taking into account the dimensions of the unit, the ventilation and the connections required for the operation of the various services.
It is important to point out that compatibility must be verified for each specific platform: HMT in fact clarifies that the vehicle categories indicated represent the intended field of application, but do not constitute a declaration of universal compatibility for aftermarket installations.
HMT Xfresh declared technical specifications:
- Total capacity 187 litres
- Refrigerated zone 109 litres
- Freezer compartment 28 litres
- Room-temperature storage compartment 50 litres
- Ice production 12 kg/day
- Declared cooling time 120 minutes
- Operating noise 40 dB
- Zone management - Independent electronic sensors
- Additional functions - Automatic ventilation and antibacterial drying
A new interpretation of the onboard kitchen
With Xfresh, HMT proposes a concept of an integrated kitchen that aims to bring together in a single element numerous functions normally distributed across fridge, freezer, storage compartments and appliances dedicated to food preparation.
A solution that could open up new possibilities in the interior design of next-generation motorhomes, especially for vans and compact recreational vehicles, where space optimisation represents a decisive design factor.
The proposal is aimed mainly at builders, called upon to assess the integration of the module according to the characteristics of the individual vehicle and its related systems.
Aspects such as the actual dimensions of the module, electrical consumption, power supply, required power and installation methods remain to be examined in greater depth through further technical information from the manufacturer. The official data sheet currently available does not report these details.
HMT Xfresh therefore represents an interesting proposal in the landscape of new solutions for the furnishing and technological equipment of the recreational vehicle kitchen, with the aim of concentrating multiple functions in a space designed to meet the needs of touring travel.
