In 2025, registrations and interest in touring holidays are on the rise

2025 confirms itself as a positive year for the motorhome world in Italy. According to data compiled by APC, Associazione Produttori Caravan e Camper, the 2025 calendar year (1 January – 31 December) recorded an increase in new motorhome registrations of +10.56% compared to 2024, alongside a rise of +6.05% in used motorhome ownership transfers.
In absolute terms, more than 44,000 motorhomes, both new and used, were purchased in Italy in 2025 — a figure that testifies to the great and growing interest of the Italian public in a vehicle that today represents a high-end leisure tool, built to measure around individual needs.
“We are pleased to observe the enthusiasm of Italians and Europeans alike for motorhomes. Rental is also doing well, not only in summer but throughout the year: a truly positive sign that confirms the interest of a new public in motorhomes. We are therefore cautiously optimistic for the future.” comments Simone Niccolai, President of APC.
The motorhome: freedom, comfort and personalisation
The motorhome is the ideal way to experience travel and leisure time in a flexible, dynamic and stress-free manner: it allows you to set off without bookings, change your itinerary at any time and travel not only during traditional holidays, but throughout the year, including for weekends, bank holidays and short breaks, discovering lesser-known destinations and getting close to nature. The motorhome is attracting ever more interest, consistently across all European countries, and this is linked both to its ability to interpret contemporary trends (new forms of socialising, environmental awareness, culture, food and wine, pet-friendliness), and to the high level of on-board comfort, which allows it to be used even in the winter months.
As many will know, today’s motorhomes are genuine high-level travelling living spaces, equipped with home automation systems, including remote heating control, fully equipped kitchens with every comfort, and shower cubicles often enhanced with wellness features. A level of comfort that makes the motorhome an increasingly popular choice even among the most demanding travellers, and one that has transformed the perception of the vehicle: no longer a compromise, but a “cool”, personalised and quality choice, ideal for travelling as a family, as a couple or with friends, bringing along the family pet too.
Salone del Camper: a shared passion
The growing interest of Italians is also confirmed by the success of the Salone del Camper, held every year in September at Fiere di Parma, of which APC is co-organiser. In 2025, the event recorded more than 107,000 visitors, confirming its position as the second-largest trade show in the sector in Europe by number of visitors.
An industrial excellence “made in Italy”
From an industrial standpoint, Italy ranks as the third-largest motorhome manufacturer in Europe, after Germany and France, and exports more than 80% of its production, mainly to Germany, France and the United Kingdom. A result that confirms the great appreciation of the Italian product among European motorhome enthusiasts.
Alongside manufacturers, a highly specialised components supply chain has also developed, supplying not only Italian builders but also their European counterparts, reinforcing Italy’s role as a reliable supplier of innovative solutions on an international scale.
Motorhome tourism benefits local areas
Institutional attention towards touring holidays is also growing. In 2025, a call for proposals by the Ministry of Tourism allocated more than 24 million euros to 169 Italian municipalities for the creation and upgrading of motorhome service areas. Alongside this are numerous regional calls, including those from the Piedmont Region and the Tuscany Region, dedicated to developing new infrastructure for motorhome tourism.
A clear sign that it is increasingly understood how touring tourism generates widespread economic value.
According to a survey by the German magazine “Promobil”, a two-person motorhome crew spends more than 1,100 euros a week in the areas they visit. And this is a form of tourism that promotes seasonal spread, supports so-called lesser-known destinations and boosts local economies, thanks to the purchase of food, wine and craft products that often fill the motorhome on the way back home, becoming a story and a memory of the journey.
