Some spots, those closest to the electrical outlets, get shade in the late afternoon. The rest of the area gets midday sun. If you find a spot in the other rest area in Pergola (the one under the overpass), which is rare but possible, you can get some shade. On the way there, especially if you exit the rest area under the overpass to reach it, AVOID driving on Via Raffaello. Neither the GPS nor the road signs warn you that it's extremely narrow. A Westfalia can manage it, but with an Elnagh low-profile van like mine (thanks, Maria), I got through with just a few centimeters on each side.
