Bingen is unremarkable; it was almost completely destroyed during World War II, as was the bridge (several villages along the Rhine were bombed, and little was saved, making it disappointing). From Bingen, however, you can take the boat to the opposite bank (be careful, there are no bridges on the Rhine, except near Koblenz and Mainz!) The area is therefore inconvenient to visit with a camper; the boat ride to the other side of the river costs 15 euros for two adults, a camper, and two children, one of whom is free.
